Diwali Celebrations – compassion in action
For PSGIANS from all sections of its stakeholder fraternity, celebrating Diwali with the students at PSG Maanavar Illam is an annual ritual. Faculty, Students, Staff and Management mark the occasion with joy, friendship and cultural unity; providing invitees coming from diverse backgrounds to come together, celebrate traditions, and foster a sense of community. Stakeholders from across PSG Institutions pool resources to donate clothes, sweets and firecrackers to students of PSG Maanavar Illam, extending the spirit of Diwali beyond their homes; reiterating the PSG ethos of community, service, and shared joy. Students participate in small-scale firecracker celebrations with a focus on eco-friendly crackers and alternatives like sparkles and lamps. The Diwali celebration also creates cherished memories and traditions that the participants carry forward, building a lifelong bond with their peers and the institution.
PSG & Sons Charities ever since its inception has been supporting the cause of underprivileged children from economically weaker sections of the society. Eventually, the need for an exclusive home-hostel for such children was felt and the PSG Maanavar Illam was founded in 1995. Maanavar Illam was established as a ‘boys only’ home to provide succour for boys with single parents or no parents; providing for them, mentoring them to be well-rounded individuals, ensuring inclusiveness to help them pursue academic aspirations.
The children accommodated at PSG Maanavar Illam are admitted to different standards in PSG Sarvajana Higher Secondary School, to pursue their education. Meritorious and deserving students are provided higher education / admissions in any of the PSG Institutions including PSG Industrial Institute/ PSG Polytechnic College/ PSG College of Arts & Science/ PSG College of Technology, etc., and is funded through endowments from alumni, charitable organizations apart from direct contributions from the PSG & Sons Charities Trust
While the initial intake at PSG Maanavar Illam was just 25 in 1995, it was upgraded through improved infrastructure to 100 in 2008. The current strength of students in PSG Maanavar Illam is 208 with a building that sports a more comprehensive infrastructure, including excusive facilities for kitchen and dining, a library, indoor games hall with well-appointed amenities. The new facility was inaugurated by Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Honourable Minister for School Education, Government of Tamilnadu on Aug 08, 2023.
